Crown Ducal
Set of 4 GAINSBOROUGH Dinner Plates
10.5″ Off-White (c. 1930s)
Offered: A lovely set of 4 round dinner plates made by Crown Ducal of England (A.G. Richardson, fine bone china). The pattern is called “Gainsborough” (which is also the shape). These plates have scalloped rims with embossed borders of berries and flowers, and a plain center. They measure 10.5 inches wide across the rim edge. (Please note that some photos were taken in natural light, others were taken with camera flash.)
These plates are in good to very good condition, with some light signs of utensil wear or marks; one plate has slightly heavier utensil marks than the other 3 (plus a dark speck in the glaze, which appears original to manufacture). There are no chips or cracks or fleabites, and no crazing–the elegant rims and embossed borders are very solid and intact on all the plates.
On the bottom of each is a green crown logo and text for “Crown Ducal | Gainsborough | England | Rd. No. 749657.” (This registration number dates to 1929.)
